URBAN - Criminal/Police Information Checks
WHO is required to provide a Police Information Check (PIC), complete with Vulnerable Sector Check?
In the Archdiocese of Saint Boniface, all parish employees as well as all parish volunteers whose ministries are classified as ‘High Risk’ must provide a clean PIC every 5 years. For a sample list of High Risk ministry positions please see the reverse side of the Compliance Declaration Form at the bottom of the secondary tab drop-down menu of this Protocol section.
Volunteers and Employees of parishes within the city of Winnipeg must apply for their Police Information Checks (PICs) - formerly referred to as Criminal Record Checks - through the Winnipeg Police Services (WPS).
There are 3 ways to apply:
- In person by going directly to WPS at 245 Smith Street in Winnipeg, or certain other designated precincts, or
- Online personally, or
- Online through an ‘Agency’ (i.e. parish)
Online applications may be conducted 24/7 from any location and are typically processed much quicker than in-person ones. You can also monitor the status of your application online at anytime.
Some parishes have registered online with WPS as Agencies. This method of applying for your PIC streamlines both the application process and the payment process. To determine if your parish has registered with WPS as an Agency please contact your parish Safe Environment Coordinator, parish Priest or Parish Life Director.
When applying, ALWAYS be sure to indicate that you require the Vulnerable Sector Check as well. It is conducted at the same time as the PIC - all in one transaction. Our Diocesan Protocol requires it and it does not increase the cost of the PIC.
